ALPENSTOCK is the result of shared personal experiences, aspirations and emotions inspired by the discovery of a ruined bivouac conceived in 1945 by carpenter Louis Chiorino on the Col de la Temple (Temple Pass), at a 3321-meter altitude, in the Ecrins mountain range. This project is part of a strategy to better appreciate a well-known mountain pass, a key crossing point to reach the mythical peaks surrounding it. ALPENSTOCK is a prefabricated, adaptable, autonomous shelter for climbers. It is conceived so a visitor can be sheltered, secure and “resource himself” in a sporty context with a minimal amount of comfort. It accompanies the sportsman who wants to disconnect from the world. The relationship between the body and the environment is at the core of the project. The bivouac design associates time-worn techniques with new materials that have innovative characteristics.
Quentin Paule is a young designer passionate about mountain climbing and new ideas. As a product and interior designer, he seeks to overcome restrictions and find solutions for tomorrow’s living environments. He is currently seeking editors for the ALPENSTOCK project.
Ecole Camando, linked to Paris’ Arts Decoratifs museum, trains spatial designers who are conscious of both society’s mutations as well as technical evolutions. Product and interior designers conceive living spaces for today and tomorrow. They must respond to unexpected scenarios or proposals and invent new uses for them. Students are trained to think about overall universes and moods for habitation and work spaces, hotels, restaurants, commercial and service environments, private or public spaces, scenographies and museum designs.
ALPENSTOCK est le résultat d’expériences personnelles partagées, d’aspirations, et de sentiments. Au cœur du massif des Écrins, à plus de 3321 mètres d’altitude, on trouve au Col de la Temple, un ancien bivouac en ruine conçu et dessiné par le charpentier Louis Chiorino en 1945. Ce projet s’inscrit dans une stratégie de revalorisation d’un col chargé d’histoire, connu, et emprunté, qui reste un point de passage privilégié pour accéder aux sommets mythiques des alentours. Sur cette base historique, ALPENSTOCK est un édicule, préfabriqué, adaptable et entièrement autonome en haute montagne. Il est conçu pour que l’alpiniste puisse s’abriter, soit sécurisé, et puisse ainsi se « retrouver », dans un cadre sportif, grâce à un confort minimum. Il accompagne le sportif dans sa quête de déconnexion, et place ainsi l’enjeu de la relation entre le corps et l’environnement au cœur du projet. L’objectif est ici de proposer un bivouac, dessiné au moyen de techniques séculaires, associées à l’emploi de nouveaux matériaux pour leurs caractéristiques innovantes.
